Trigger Point Injection Therapy at Seattle Naturopathic Center
When muscles do not relax due to overuse, strain, or trauma, a knot is formed inside of the muscle, creating a trigger point. A trigger point is a traumatized area in the muscle that may feel like a tight band or knot.
When pressed on, these trigger points will “trigger” or refer pain to other parts of the body. Trigger Point Injections (TPI) are a very effective way to treat these knots and relieve pain. TPIs are injections of an anesthetic that numbs the area and blocks nerves from sending pain signals to the referred area. This injection halts the cycle, immediately giving relief. Ultimately, the patient will experience a reduction in pain and irritability that was once caused by one or more trigger points.
